Pencil Illustration of Thelonious Monk.
After doing an illustration of Muddy Waters, I decided that I wanted to illustrate another musician. Originally, I thought about doing a picture of Little Walter, due to his relationship with Waters. However, I saw a great photo of Thelonious Monk (love the keyboard in the glasses), and decided I would work with him instead. For this illustration, I used the B graphite pencil. The lead wasn’t as dark as the softer, Sketch and Wash that I used for Waters’ illustration, but I think lighter lead in this case worked better to give this piece a more realistic effect.
This took me a little less than 20 hours, which were spread out over 3 weeks.

Thx! I really appreciate that. I am going to increase my overall production rate. So far I’ve been putting out illustrations about once every 3 weeks, but I need to speed up that turnaround time.
I know what your mean, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. I will keep following your blog, because your work is outstanding.
